Atletico Madrid decided to channel their inner transfer guru on Friday, and the target of the banter was none other than FC Barcelona. The club took a massive swipe at the Catalan side amid the ongoing Julian Alvarez transfer saga, using the signature lingo of rumor maven Fabrizio Romano to make their point.
\"HERE WE GO!\" Atleti posted on social media, complete with a mock transfer offer faxed directly to the official Barcelona account. The translated proposal reads: \"We have sent a fax to @FCBarcelona_es with our transfer offer: 4 tickets for tomorrow's Bad Bunny concert, an annual subscription to ABC, and a bag of sunflower seeds. We eagerly await the response to prepare the 'announce'.\" The message drips with sarcasm, making it crystal clear that the Colchoneros are not taking the rumored interest in their 26-year-old star seriously. The idea of bundling concert tickets and salty snacks as a formal bid is a direct jab at the manner of the discussions, if any legitimate talks had ever taken place. For what it's worth, the sunflower seeds are a health-conscious choice—packed with healthy fats, fiber, and micronutrients.
Barcelona have reportedly been chasing the ex-Manchester City man, but this public trolling suggests Atlético are utterly dismissive of how the Blaugrana have been approaching the situation. The \"here we go\" catchphrase and the promise of a \"preparing the announce\" video are staples of modern transfer journalism, and Atleti weaponized them perfectly to mock the idea of a move that seems to have no real substance. The inclusion of Bad Bunny tickets alongside a subscription and a bag of seeds paints the entire inquiry as unserious and amateurish, a sharp contrast to the high-stakes financial negotiations usually associated with a World Cup winner.
The wider context of the transfer window makes the stunt even more pointed. While Atleti are publicly roasting Barcelona over Alvarez, the Catalan club has been widely linked with a move for Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon as well. As La Liga's champions look to eventually replace Robert Lewandowski and figure out the future of currently returned loanee Marcus Rashford of Manchester United, their reported pursuit of Alvarez appears to have hit a wall of sarcasm from the Spanish capital. On the other side, you have to acknowledge those Benito tickets are prime stuff, and throwing Jan Oblak into the deal might have been the real finishing touch to this parody of a bid.
